NHS – Procure P21+ Framework
The contract consisted of providing professional services under a PPC200 appointment on NHS projects, the most recent consisted of the construction of a new two-storey surgical ward at Papworth Hospital, Cambridgeshire. The schemes undertaken as part of the P21+ framework were mainly design and build solutions with a Principal Contractor. As NHS registered P21+ principal supply chain members, we provided a feasibility stage, full detailed design and calculations package, tender review and construction stage technical support service which included demolition, enabling works designs, temporary supplies and isolations.
Waldeck understand the key benefits of client interaction having undertaken extensive liaison and worked closely with the Hospitals Estates Department, and nursing staff, to provide new facilities based on the ‘productive ward’ principal. As the majority of the schemes were located in close proximity to active departments, this extensive liaison was paramount to ensure that disruption caused by the demolitions, supply interruptions, existing services removal and the new installations were kept to an absolute minimum. It also meant that all the relevant estate and nursing staff were fully briefed on the scope and programme of the proposed works.
Working closely with the design team at the earliest stage, we undertook dynamic thermal simulations of the project, particularly focusing on increasing the thermal efficiency of the building fabric in its static state. Upon completion of this process, we were able provide a facility with a 15% improvement over Part L in line with NHS requirements.
Waldeck provided a full detailed design package for the project, assisted in the construction of the tender package, provided technical support during the tender period and we provided onsite technical support via regular site meetings to ensure the installation met both the stakeholders and relevant regulatory requirements. Waldeck’s key senior engineers have direct experience of all types of health facilities and have successfully delivered key design solutions on major projects at both Broadmoor and Rampton Hospitals, Ealing Hospital and also privately operated facilities.
