Introduction

At the forefront of innovation and technologies, Waldeck continue to push the boundaries of research and development across the digital construction industry.

We recognise the importance of working with like-minded, forward-thinking organisations and institutions to research, educate and learn in order to realise a common goal, and therefore are engaging with top academic institutions across the UK and overseas, including the below, to name a few.

University of Huddersfield

Waldeck have been working closely with the University of Huddersfield for some time now. We are heavily involved with the University through our ongoing Government-backed Innovate UK funded project to automate digital capture to model workflows, as we work to become a world leader in progressive ‘Digital Twin’ solutions.

We also continue to explore similar opportunities with the University of Huddersfield in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and generative design, and have recently been awarded further funding through the University to enhance our Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) research, and support future developments through the purchase of another drone, which allows Waldeck to widen our research into thermal imagery and energy saving surveys.

Cardiff University

Waldeck are engaged with Cardiff University, and has been accepted onto the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)-Harbour project, to develop the standards for harbour, ports and waterway infrastructure.

Working in collaboration with Cardiff University and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), the project will run over two years (2017-2019), developing the IFC in accordance with the BuildingSMART International Standards Process.

As expert panel members, Waldeck will be reviewing, commenting, discussing and advising the project team on the development of the IFC standards and the final deliverables working to deliver an industry standard for IFC data.

Tsinghua University

As part of a two day UK-China Construction Workshop, Waldeck’s Founder and CEO, Paul Waldeck delivered a keynote speech on Digital Twin Solutions and Smart Information Management (SIM).

The conference was developed by The University of Huddersfield in collaboration with Tsinghua University and the theme for the two days was the integration of data, information and knowledge in BIM, and the lifecycle of a building or infrastructure facility.

The two day conference concluded with a session focusing on the route forward and next steps. Positively, all attendees were in agreement to further the collaboration and build upon the new relationships by forming a new working group called ‘China-UK Centre of Excellence for Digital Design and Construction’. Middlesex University

Waldeck advocate the Middlesex University BIM Management (MSc) Course, which was the first of its kind, in the world, when it began in 2013.

Having enrolled two of our BIM experts onto the first global cohort for the course back in 2013, each year more and more of our employees have been sponsored by Waldeck to develop their knowledge and understanding through this route.

Individuals with a passion for BIM and a desire to further their career in this field, will obtain a wealth of knowledge from lecturers, industry leaders and their fellow cohort right from the start across three key areas: Technical BIM Management, Operational BIM Management and Strategic BIM Management.

What’s next?

Our future pipeline of involvement with academia through research, education, and scholarship means we are in discussion with top Universities across the UK and overseas.

As relationships continue to strengthen and evolve we will see Waldeck working with research teams, professors and students alike to develop solutions across Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mixed Reality (MR), provide course support, lectures and seminars across Digital Construction as well as the addition of further Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) placings into the business.
