On the 22nd of May, Waldeck’s Equipment Engineering Lead, Jiaqi Liang, took part in a volunteering day at Badock Wood in Bristol. Organised by the Engineering Delivery Team from the Technical Directorate, HPC project, the team swapped their usual tools of the trade for shovels and hammers to support improvements in the local woodland.

The day was dedicated to an important improvement project in the historic 400-year-old woodland named after Sir Stanley Badock, an industrialist and landowner who gifted part of the wood to the local community in 1937. The focus was on removing old, deteriorated wooden steps and replacing them with new, safe, and durable ones, improving access to a well-used public path that leads through the woodland down to the river.

The work was physically demanding but incredibly rewarding, as colleagues collaborated to make the path safer and more accessible for the public.

Organised by the Engineering Delivery Team, the volunteering event highlighted the group’s ongoing commitment not only to engineering excellence but also to community engagement and environmental stewardship.

Equipment Engineering Lead, Jiaqi Liang shared:

This activity was sponsored by Bristol City Council, as part of their commitment to improving local wellbeing. It was a pleasure and a great experience to have the opportunity to take part in this initiative, contributing to the community alongside my colleagues from the HPC Technical Directorate Engineering Delivery Team.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for giving their time and effort to support the local community and enhance this beautiful natural space.
