Cold Store Refurbishment

Our solution

Waldecks Civil and Structural Engineering team worked closely with Iceland Frozen Food and DHL to deliver a fit-for-purpose design for the expansion and refurbioshment of the existing facility, into a new state-of the art Cold Store.

Through carrying out a survey and utilising advanced state-of-the-art design analysis software, our team verified early-on the capability of the existing building structure in support of the new cold store panels without requiring structural strengthening.

Much of the original floor constructions were retained and strengthened, rather than replaced, to carry loadings that were increased four-fold. As this was a live operation, a carefully phased solution was required to keep DHL delivering goods to the supermarkets with the minimum of disruption from construction operations as part of the due diligence process.

The results

This was a challenging project within the timescales, but excellent collaborative working with Iceland and DHL ensured the project team delivered a fantastic value solution whilst working within a live operational facility.
