This annual event organised by the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce brings together businesses with vision, innovation and support for industry in Lincolnshire.
Waldeck are delighted to have been shortlisted three times for the Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2024.
This year, we are a finalist in the ‘Engineering Consultancy of the Year’, ‘Architecture Consultancy of the Year’ and ‘Young Achiever of the Year’ categories.
As we look to shine a spotlight on each of our three worthy finalists, we first caught up with Tim Leach, Director of our Civil & Structural Engineering team, to hear more about our ‘Engineering Consultancy of the Year’ shortlist.
Hi Tim! How has this year been different for Waldeck’s Engineering teams?
Anyone who’s been in the construction sector for a few years will know that we are a bit of a barometer for the wider economy. 2023 was a challenging year, with rising inflation and the cost of borrowing either stalling or curtailing projects across the industry.
We have seen a downturn in some sectors but have been fortunate to have some long-running infrastructure projects and busy, loyal customers, which means we have continued to grow the team here in Lincoln with some fantastic local talent.
We’ve also been getting involved in loads of great initiatives locally, including hosting the Chamber’s Summer Garden Party, fundraising at the Lincoln 10k and working closer with the University and College in several ways.
From a technical point of view, we’re continuing to support our clients net zero ambitions and we’ve been preparing for big legislative changes that will impact the industry, including the Building Safety Act and building regulations changes.
Why do you think the judges were impressed with your entry?
We would like to hope that we gave the judges a good insight into our quite diverse business and some unique reasons as to why Waldeck might deserve to win this award.
As a team, we genuinely believe we are working hard to support and grow the best people, in order to deliver the best projects for our clients whilst also adding value to our community, economy, clients and partners.
Waldeck operate on four core values which we believe differentiate us from our competitors and drive us forward as a business – Courage, Care, Curiosity and Collaboration. These values are embedded throughout our business, and I think the judges will have seen some great examples of how we have put these into practice over the past 12 months through:
- Investing in our people and the future talent within Lincolnshire
- Proving ourselves as a good employer and a great place to work
- Delivery best-practise solutions to clients across the UK
- Using the latest technology to go above and beyond in our technical delivery
What would winning the Engineering Consultancy of the Year mean to you?
Waldeck have had an office in Lincolnshire for almost 28 years, which began with a very small Civil & Structural Engineering team in Sleaford, since, growing into a multi-million-pound multi-disciplinary consultancy.
We have a really successful engineering team functioning in the heart of Lincoln and deliver projects all over the UK but we are always keen to do more project work locally on ‘home-turf’; sharing our learnings and experiences from working with clients such as EDF Energy, Network Rail and Jaguar Land Rover.
For us, winning this award would be a great opportunity for us to showcase what we can do to the local supply chain and potential clients, in the hope that we can collaborate with them on more projects in the future.
Taking place on Thursday 1st February at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lincoln, the awards are being hosted by comedian, actor, and presenter Lloyd Griffith.
Simon Beardsley, Chief Executive at Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce said:
“We receive a very high standard of applications year-on-year and we thank every business who showed their interest and took the time to apply.
“The judges were very impressed by the applications this year. All finalists should be extremely proud, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements with them in February.”
