Last month, EDF Group hosted their own internal ‘Energy Games’ as a result of their partnership with the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Following regional competitions throughout 2023, 120 UK participants joined their international colleagues at INSEP (the French National Institute of Sport, Exercise & Performance) to take part in the Energy Games Final, with a variety of different tournaments such as, Badminton, Football, Boccia, Volleyball, Relay and Table Tennis.

Following last year’s regional event in Gloucester, where Waldeck’s Yulei Tian, along with his playing partner, Cedric Isoardi came second in the Regional Badminton Doubles competition, they then qualified to compete in the Energy Games final in Paris this May.

During the event, the pair managed to qualify from the Group stage but unfortunately got knocked out in the next round.

Yulei is one of Waldeck’s Principal Civil Engineers embedded within our EDF team, working on-site at Hinkley Point C. He shared of his involvement in the event:

“Battling into the regional finals last year was an immense honour for me. Even though my partner and I didn’t clinch the victory (kudos to the formidable pair of newly qualified mums!), it was rewarding and satisfying after years of my own personal passion for the sport.

“Fast forward 6 months to the Energy Games Final in Paris, and the standard was very high, unfortunately Cedric and I didn’t win and although we were of course disappointed, I am extremely grateful to have taken part in this great and enjoyable event! Thank you to Waldeck sponsoring Cedric and I by providing the playing kits!”
