In response to the growing need for mental resilience and self-esteem development among female students, Lincoln UTC has introduced an early intervention programme in partnership with Strong Girl Squad CIC. This local, award-winning organisation is dedicated to empowering young women through strength and conditioning.

The Strong Girl Squad Academy is a female-led programme designed specifically for girls aged 11–17. It focuses on building strength, confidence, and self-esteem through safe and effective weightlifting, alongside fostering positive gym experiences. Running for three hours each week at the Strong Girl Squad studio in Lincoln, the programme supports small groups of up to 10 girls, identified by their schools as needing confidence-building.
In addition to physical training, the initiative addresses material barriers to participation by providing donated hygiene products, gym clothing, and trainers to those in need. Its goal is to create a supportive and empowering environment where girls feel safe, valued, and encouraged to appreciate their efforts rather than their appearance.
Founded in 2022, Strong Girl Squad CIC is an award-winning not-for-profit organisation led by qualified female strength coaches. It has received national recognition, including a 2023 Special Recognition Award from the Department for Education and the 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero Award, presented to founder Kristen Ingraham-Morgan.
Lincoln UTC has shared feedback from previous participants highlighting the programme’s impact:
“Strong Girl Squad has done more for my daughter than you can imagine.”
“Strong Girl Squad provided me with a safe space and has built my self-confidence. It has helped me to learn who I am.”
